Roses are red, violets are blue.  If you love bold color, then this post is for you!  We’re pulling out the color RED from the Color Files today…just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Red is a undoubtedly a bold choice when it comes to color.  It can be a powerful decorating statement.  It’s notoriously tricky to get it right.  Chances are, you’ve either seen a really bad example of red decor or you’ve had to paint over it.  However, when you do get red right, it is absolutely gorgeous.  I’m happy to share a handful of lovely reds today.  Enjoy the inspiration!

What about you?  Do you use any red in your decor?   Tell me about it, if you do, what is your best red paint for you home?!  Is it indoors or out?  Did you put it on a large wall as a focal point, or use it in accent pieces?  Do you wish you were brave enough to use more of it?

  1. how ironic! i just went to the paint store to get some red paint for our bathroom. wish i didnt have a bunch of holes to fill because i really just want to get the paint on the walls!

  2. I am trying to figure out how to incorporate red into our room because it’s hubbys favourite colour. I think he caught on that I have been purposefully ignoring that fact lol. I will try it in our room first and see how that works:) Thank you for this timely and helpful post.

    1. If you don’t love the color, but want to be kind to you hubby (which is a great thing to do) Then add it in little pops of color that can be changed out whenever you need a change! That way it isn’t permanent, but both people in the house are happy!

  3. Oh, I love red! The red indoor-doors are great. Sadly I’m not allowed to paint the doors in my rented apartment (and I think mine is just too small for such things…). But nevertheless I have a looot of red decorations here. And with all the white walls and furniture it really adds some drama to my little space.

  4. I have used red on one wall in my bathroom, and the same red on two walls in my kitchen. I love the color I chose (Red Wagon from Dutch Boy), but there is one down side: If you have heavily textured walls, it is nearly impossible to get a clean line where the red meets a lighter color in the corners. I have become blind to it, but boy does it show when I take photos!

  5. I have had a deep red living room for almost 4 years…I loved it! But it never seemed magazines of current featured red. So I just painted my living room a light sand color. I am not as impressed. I am trying to incorporate more color and give it a beachy theme…kinda hard to do with “cabin red”. Maybe in a year or so, I’ll add some color back to the walls.

  7. I love RED! I painted an entire room red when we first moved into our new house and filled it with antiques. All my guests were scared! So I had to change my MO and did modern and antiques combined. Feb is also my little girl’s birthday month so I must get inspired and I came to the right spot!

  8. Hi Cassity- I just wanted to say thanks so much for showing my dining room pic on this posting. I see I am not the only one that loves red. Always glad to see what you post. Have a great day.

  9. My husband built a new mantel for our fake fireplace and I painted it poppy red. It looks amazing with the white brick and grey walls. Then while travelling recently I found artwork with the same red! I was a little afraid to use red because I have seen it go horribly wrong but I am so glad I did it :). Loving your blog btw.

  10. WOW! Nice… I love the color combination… It is very neat, clean, and attractive to look at… this is awesome,… how i wish i could paint my house just like this….

  11. I am trying to convince my cousin to paint her room red! She wanted to but now she says no because no one else has there room red, its not normal and she now all of a sudden doesn’t want it anymore. I told her not to base it on what other ppl have or don’t have go with what u want. She says she now wants to paint it a nice, calm Coral color.
