5 Best Styling Products for Curly Hair
Growing up I hated my thick, curly hair. I wore it long for years just to weigh it down. I didn’t know how to take care of it, let alone style it. I dreaded my mom running the comb through my hair at night to get out all the tangles. After spending my teenage years fighting with a flat iron and a multitude of straightening products, I finally gave up and decided to embrace my curly hair.
Styling curly or wavy hair isn’t difficult as long as you have the right products. In fact, it’s much easier and takes less time than working against what nature gave you. Here are the five best styling products for curly hair that will help you embrace the hair you were born with.
Living Proof Curl Defining Style Cream
This is the most recent styling cream that I’ve tried and I have to say I’m pretty impressed with the results. Usually I have to use a pomade to tame the frizz after diffusing my hair, but I don’t need to when I use this stuff. It enhances my curls and helps me achieve the overall shape that I want–no triangle head for me.
Bed Head On the Rebound Curl Re-Call Cream
If you want to make your curls or waves bounce, this styling cream will do the trick. Use anywhere from a nickel to a quarter size amount depending on your hair length. Then, twist your hair into sections all the way around your head. Finally, blow dry with a diffuser. You’ll have ringlets that last all day!
Biolage Styling Gelée
Thick, curly hair runs in my family and this gel is my mom’s favorite. It’s great for every length of hair and smells like walking into a fresh garden. Stronger than your average styling cream, this gel is great to use if you want more structure and a firmer hold. I like to use it if I’m going to let my hair air dry because it tends to keep my hair from poofing out and losing its shape.
Aveda Be Curly Curly Enhancer
I love Aveda products for their natural ingredients and commitment to the environment. Their Be Curly line does a great job enhancing natural curls while moisturizing your thirsty hair. The Curly Enhancer is a styling cream that can be used alone or combined with the Be Curly Style Prep, which helps infuse moisturizer and define your curls even more. For optimum results, blow dry your hair with a diffuser.
Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade
If I could only have one hair product in my arsenal, this pomade would be it. I’ve used it on wet and dry hair to achieve both curly and straight styles. It’s lightweight and tames frizz like nobody’s business without being greasy or sticky. Thick or thin, curly or straight, this product is one no lady (or gentleman for that matter) should be without.
